My First Proper Climbing Trip

As you can probably tell from the video I was a little confused as to where we were but not to worry as we had an exceptional trip.

This was not an official club trip as we wanted to go the weekend before that official outing as the weather was looking bad for their date - we were correct in our weather prediction, we did have a great trip, lovely sun on the hills for us :).

You could call us a 'Splinter Group' as we 'Went it alone' with just the 4 of us in our vehicle however we did meet another Two club members at the camp site.

I had a net-book with me and an Internet Dongle so I could get online whilst away, My intention was to do a little 'Geocaching' while I was there but the pace of the rest of the group meant I had no time at all to sort anything out as they wanted to 'Get To It' A.S.A.P which was fine.

We decided on which part of the area we wanted to visit and climb and were soon away after setting up camp - just basic tents, nothing posh.

After finding a place to park (Free) we set out on the walk to the particular rock/s we were aiming for.. good lord - you need a good backpack and at least solid walking boots for that bit - I didn't have strong boots so suffered a little but it was fortunate that I was walking with Pierre (Mr P) who was not ready to run up massive hills due to his chest infection. so we took it slow.

The guide book said it was a 30 min walk to our destination - Yes, it may have been 30 mins but the going was tough to say the least. Very Demanding indeed.

So, eventually Pierre (Mr P) and I arrived at the rocks where the others were, after some debate we settled on a particular pitch and went about setting up 'Home Comforts' to be specific a 'Kitchen area' as below:

Here we had a 'Base' where we made Tea and generally gathered and that was a good things as the guide book said that our chosen climb was 'Not Popular'.. LOL - never trust a guide book as you could see from the video it was far from un-popular and we made a good decision in staking our place on the hill as we did.

Remember though that we had to lug anything like water etc up that flaming hill in the first place so again only essentials were available.

We had a very good session of climbing that day, retired to the pub as it started to get dark and were all in bed by 10 as we had an early start again to make the most of our surroundings and opportunities.

Unfortunately that night @ the camp site was a group of young people evidently celebrating a birthday - they were shouting all night despite one of our members stating his dis-content in a direct manner.

Personally I was not worried about this disturbance as I cannot sleep when I need to be up early so found it all amusing.

Pierre did come up with a good thing though as a way of revenge 'Stealth Style' and that was to SuperGlue their tent zip but unfortunately this couldn't happen as they were up and out all flaming night, we didn't have any glue in any case - good to keep that in mind for the future though.

Here I show you how easy this whole lark is:

You see - anyone can do this. try it :)
